With a vibrant community of over 23,000 students from over 100 countries world-wide, 2,400 staff and 250 degree courses, Liverpool John Moores University is one of the largest, most dynamic and forward-thinking universities in the UK. We are currently embarked on an ambitious capital development programme across our estate that will see us consolidate within the city centre. Beyond this a new estates strategy is being drafted for 2020- 2030 that will set out the new build, refurbishment and maintenance projects required to meet the growing demands of a modern civic university. Following a restructure of the Estate and Facilities Management department a vacancy has become available for highly motivated individual to be a part of the Capital Projects Team which carries responsibility for the delivery of construction projects ranging from £50k to over £50m.

You will be expected to support the Head of Capital Projects in the effective project management of the University’s various capital and revenue programmes. You will manage the delivery of a number of capital investment projects across the whole estate. These will range from infrastructure estates led projects through to academic projects including, but not limited to, adaption and extension of existing facilities and new build projects from feasibility to fit out and occupation.

You will be responsible for developing project briefs, programmes and budgets, and will be required to manage external consultants and contractors. Innovative solutions will be required to resolve issues that may arise during the project(s) and you will be expected to use your professional skills to mitigate the associated impact of project risks upon time, cost and quality.

You will require a degree in Project Management, Building Surveying, Construction, Building Services Engineering or equivalent.  You will need to be enthusiastic, calm under pressure, and have proven construction project management and contract administration skills. You will also require a good knowledge of building design and construction procedures, forms of contract and consultants terms and conditions of engagement.

Good communication skills and the ability to plan your own workload are essential, and you will need to be prepared to work over evenings, weekends and public holidays if required. An attention to detail with the ability to ensure quality standards are adhered to is essential.
