University Communications provides support and campus leadership in planning, coordination and implementation of strategic communications programs that support Stanford University and its mission. As Photographer, you will work closely with the University Communications team of writers, videographers, and other content creators to produce and distribute compelling visual media. Working both individually and as a team, you will use photos and video to document life at Stanford. From ideation to production, you will be actively encouraged to find new and creative solutions to communicate Stanford’s ever-expanding story. Collaborating with constituencies across campus, you will produce a wide range of portrait, event, editorial, and architectural photography and video. Your projects will be highly trafficked on Stanford’s websites, publications, and social media channels.

Past content includes the White House Summit on Cybersecurity with President Barack Obama, a dance master class for students with L.A. Dance Project’s David Freeland, and major events like commencement weekend and the Rose Bowl. This is a fantastic opportunity for a creative mind looking to tell the next great story.

Responsibilities

  • Pitch, research, prepare, and produce professional quality digital photography and video for both internal and external audiences. Create original content through high-impact visual storytelling.
  • Photo and video support for events, press releases, portraits and location photography.
  • Manage all aspects of capturing and transmitting still images and video.
  • Image processing, editing, and archiving.
  • Collaborate with the University Communications team and university partners on strategic and creative approaches to projects involving abstract or technical content to meet objectives within time and cost constraints.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of equipment including but not limited to; Digital SLR systems, lighting equipment, and media storage.
  • Capture names, titles of people photographed, and other relevant information about events and situations being photographed.
  • Manage and process photos acquired from external sources.
  • Create compelling social media content tailored to individual platforms.
  • Other duties as assigned.  

To be successful in this position you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or related field, and five years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Advanced technical experience using digital media equipment, photo and video creation, editing software, and/or digital media control software.
  • Demonstrated initiative and creativity. Entrepreneurial, proactive and resourceful.
  • Ability to produce content under tight deadlines.
  • Awareness of contemporary trends in photography and videography.
  • Broad knowledge of all aspects of professional quality productions including field and studio cameras and lighting.
  • Understanding of online photo and video environment and online distribution.
  • Ability to write metadata and catalog media in digital databases.
  • Ability to adapt equipment setup and provide alternative setup or workarounds if necessary.
  • Ability to manage a variety of simultaneous projects, excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, mature judgement, and diplomacy required to interact effectively with and provide customer service to a broader audience.
  • Ability to work independently as well as effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Experience planning, coordinating, and executing archival digitization projects.

  • FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate.
