Assistant Director, Specialists
Stanford Medicine, which comprises Stanford University Medical School – a premier research-intensive medical school – and Stanford Health Care – nationally recognized for quality patient care and leading-edge technology – seeks a motivated and energetic Assistant Director to be part of the major gifts team in Medical Center Development (MCD), which is the driving force behind building and launching a comprehensive multi-year, multi-million dollar campaign for the medical center enterprise at Stanford. You will be a part of a team of development officers whose sole focus is fundraising on behalf of medical research and clinical care. You will be a member of the Medical Center Development Major Gifts team, reporting to the Director of Administrative Services.
Your responsibilities include:
- Partnering with one Major Gifts Director to manage the planning and implementation of their overall team needs.
- Summarizing and taking responsibility for key action items, distributing information and managing follow-up
- Directing and managing (2-3) program managers and (2-3) development coordinators including the operational and administrative services of the major gifts home team. Providing management support to the Major Gifts Leadership Team as necessary to develop and implement policies and procedures that ensure the effective functioning of the Major Gifts Office.
- Supporting the team’s strategic planning process by tracking on deadline dates, developing templates, preparing data and analyzing data. Supporting follow-up of the plan on a quarterly basis.
- Providing quarterly run rate information to the MGO’s of the team and grateful patient pipeline trends and analysis.
- Coordinating and managing overall arc of events and materials for the home team.
- Supporting overall PM and DC team for events and material creation as needed.
- Proactively analyzing faculty grateful patient data across the team and making recommendations for inclusion.
- Working with the research team on the timely execution of ratings and assignments of leads to MGO’s for new prospects.
- Working closely with volunteers and managing unique aspects of lists, messaging and updates.
- Coordinating with the home team gift officers and their infrastructure partners to ensure projects are on track and consistent with developed strategy.

To be successful in this position, you will bring:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Advanced degree desirable
- Minimum of three years’ experience in project management and/or stewardship; five or more years desired
- Conference or event logistics experience
- Experience managing and coordinating complex projects that have multiple tasks with competing deadlines; set priorities and schedules and meet deadlines with a minimum of supervision
- Positive, can-do attitude and dedicated work ethic
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, research and editorial skills; ability to synthesize information and compose clear and effective prose
- Superior organizational skills; a work style that is thorough, accurate and detail-oriented; the ability to follow through on projects with minimal supervision
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to quickly understand and remember details about donors and projects to which they are assigned
- Strong customer-service focus; excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a proven ability to work patiently, persuasively and effectively with a wide variety of people, including faculty, staff, donors and alumni
- Demonstrated sound judgment in situations requiring independent decision-making and in handling confidential and sensitive material
- Excellent computer skills; proficiency in using advanced functions of word processing, databases, Excel spreadsheets, web resources, and donor management database; experience using Stanford’s information systems such as PostGrads is a plus but not required. We are transitioning to SalesForce in Spring 2019 but PostGrads will be used as a bridge for some functionalities.
- An understanding of fundraising—particularly within an academic setting—and the ability to work within that framework is desirable
- Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
- Frequently stand/walk, sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
- Occasionally use a telephone.
- Rarely lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 11-20 pounds.
