NYUAD, Appointment of Provost

New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) is an extraordinary achievement and unparalleled opportunity in higher education. In the decade since its founding it has become one of the most selective undergraduate institutions in the world, and developed a large and cutting-edge research presence. It is both transformational for the region, and critical to New York University’s vision to be at the forefront of international higher education in the 21st century.

NYUAD’s 1,450 undergraduate students are perhaps the most diverse student body in higher education, from more than 115 countries with no one nationality exceeding 20 percent. Its acceptance rates are comparable with the most selective institutions globally, and an exceptional education and research environment have produced 14 Rhodes Scholars in only seven years. It is home to over 320 faculty and more than 400 research staff also drawn from all over the world, who have secured high levels of research funding across over 80 research labs, centers and interdisciplinary group projects. The next phase of development will see significant growth, with NYUAD looking to expand to 2,200 undergraduates and 400 graduate students, and add well over one hundred faculty lines. NYUAD’s faculty and students alike benefit from being part of NYU’s incomparable model, which provides them with opportunities to study and research across the global network.

NYUAD is now seeking its next Provost. The Provost of NYU Abu Dhabi has a unique opportunity to contribute to an initiative in higher education and advanced research that is of global significance. Building upon a remarkable platform in liberal arts education and research, the successful candidate will be tasked to ensure that NYUAD develops into a world-class research university with a strong liberal arts core.

The Provost will report directly to the Vice Chancellor of NYU Abu Dhabi and serve as her closest intellectual and strategic partner as the institution enters its second decade fuelled by accomplishment and further ambition. Serving as chief academic officer and dean of the NYU Abu Dhabi faculty, the Provost will be committed to the principles of faculty governance, work in close collaboration with the divisional deans of NYU Abu Dhabi, and connect deeply with the local context. NYUAD’s Provost will also collaborate with senior leadership of NYU in New York and Shanghai to ensure the complementarity and alignment of academic endeavours across NYU as a global network university.
