Associate Director of Student Awards

Reporting to the Director of Student Awards, the Associate Director of Student Awards administers the University’s financial aid programs for undergraduate and graduate students, with a particular emphasis on graduate programs. The Associate Director provides information to applicants, their families and supporters, Stanford colleagues, and the general public related to financial aid programs and policies or for a specific program or area and ensures compliance with federal, state and institutional regulations and policies for awarding aid
Your responsibilities include:
- Directing the review of financial aid applications, including the monitoring of materials through multiple electronic systems, and managing graduate applications for loans as well as need-based support programs.
- Monitoring and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of university and federal financial aid policy, communicating, documenting and processing information to ensure all staff are fully trained.
- Focusing on non-professional graduate student issues, including maintenance of a relationship with graduate school and departments.
- Collaborating with other offices at the university to provide a unified message to students.
- Reviewing and approving financial aid awards to students, acting as a resource on financial aid matters for other staff.
- Determining student awards based on computed financial need and other factors; adjusting budget and package based on special circumstances; and handling the most complex cases.
- Training staff responsible for interacting with the public and evaluating applications.
- Ensuring individual student exceptions identified in standard reports are addressed and collaborating with technical team to develop reports.
- Performing outreach functions in the local community and responding to requests for informational meetings.
- Communicating complex financial aid and other information to students and parents in a clear, timely and professional manner and handling the most complex cases.

To be successful in this position, you will bring:
- Demonstrated experience in needs analysis and packaging of student financial aid.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to exercise tact and discretion when dealing with students, families and staff.
- Expertise in counseling and working with students individually, ability to provide excellent customer service in difficult situations.
- Demonstrated ability to set priorities, manage time and workflow and manage multiple, concurrent high priority projects in a time-pressured environment.
- Demonstrated understanding and ability to explain University policy to others and detailed knowledge of financial aid regulations.
- Demonstrated analytical and quantitative skills and good judgment.
- Experience in training and providing leadership to staff.
In addition, preferred requirements include:
- A Bachelor’s degree and give years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.
- Knowledge of multiple financial aid systems, document management systems, and window based environment and office applications.
