The School of Engineering, Office of the Dean, seeks an Associate Director of Development for Major Gifts to raise private funds for the Stanford School of Engineering through personal contacts with individuals. Reporting to the Director of Major Gifts in the School of Engineering, the focus will be on identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding alumni and friends capable of making gifts in the $500,000 - $9,999,999 range.
Your responsibilities include:
- Play a vital role in overall fundraising efforts for the School of Engineering.
- Maintain a robust (10-15 significant contacts per month) schedule of contacts, activities, and solicitations with a portfolio of 150-180 households.
- Design and implement strategies appropriate to the individuals in assigned portfolio. These strategies may involve a combination of personal calls by the major gifts officer, visits with school leaders and faculty members, and tailored communications and/or cultivation events.
- Manage an active portfolio, and track solicitation assignments and progress. Work with a portfolio of assigned prospects to cultivate, solicit, and steward their support.
- Develop and strengthen relationships with Engineering alumni and friends that will lead to gifts to the School of Engineering in the $500,000-$9,999,999 range.
- Coordinate fundraising contacts with relevant development colleagues in the Central Office of Development as well as other schools and units, and consult on strategy.
- Maintain an active, current body of knowledge relative to Stanford Engineering and the University, including becoming acquainted with faculty, staff, and students who can be instrumental in advancing gift discussions.
- Facilitate and manage relationships between potential and current donors with School of Engineering faculty, deans, and key volunteers.
- Take responsibility for a wide range of fundraising activities, including maintaining an active level of contacts, identifying new prospective donors and volunteers, and providing stewardship for supporters and volunteers.
- Coordinate stewardship and manage the fundraising cycle with individuals in assigned portfolio.
- Other duties may also be assigned.
- May require working flexible hours, including some nights and weekends.
- Ability to maintain a non-commercial class US driver’s license.
To be successful in this position, you will bring:
- Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in prospect identification, relationship building, and solicitation.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring and working with volunteers, faculty, and staff.
- Superior written and oral communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to articulate a compelling case for philanthropic support programs.
- Ability to translate complex concepts into compelling development proposals.
- Ability to work collaboratively with OOD colleagues as well as within the schools and units, to achieve strategic fundraising results.
- Strong initiative and self-motivation.
