The Department of Genetics at Stanford University seeks a Life Science Technician II (LST II) to join Dr. William Greenleaf’s lab, focusing on new, high-throughput technology for biochemistry and chromatin biology. The LST II will be an integral member of a diverse and interdisciplinary research team determined to transform the study of biomolecular interactions and cellular epigenomes. Current priorities include exhaustive profiling and biophysical modeling of sequence landscapes for DNA binding proteins, and characterization of newly discovered and engineered CRISPR enzymes. Other projects in the lab include building a genome-level human cell atlas of gene expression and DNA accessibility and improving single-cell genomic technologies. More broadly, the Greenleaf lab joins the rest of the Genetics department in crafting sequencing- and big data-driven answers to longstanding questions regarding the physical basis of gene regulation and cellular differentiation.

Typical duties include:

  • Generating DNA libraries for high throughput sequencing and analyzing/interpreting the results.
  • Providing advice and feedback to lab members and coordinating to complete research projects in a time-efficient manner.
  • Maintaining detailed records of experiments and outcomes.
  • Keeping a lab notebook and maintaining digital records of DNA sequencing meta-data; managing DNA samples for sequencing and library preparation; troubleshooting and referring to past unsuccessful experiments to diagnose problems.
  • Training other lab members and collaborators in lab techniques and etiquette.
  • Curating, revising and drafting new protocols for experiments.
  • Studying the latest methods for single-cell profiles and protein-nucleic acid interactions pulled from scientific literature. Awareness of new enzymes or reagents that inform new research directions is critical.
  • Monitoring consumables and lab reagents.
  • Ordering/storing stock solutions and other lab necessities as needed.

At least two years of previous laboratory experience or two years of college coursework in a scientific discipline.
