Position Summary

The Manager of Health, Wellness, and Counseling (HWC) oversees the delivery of mental health service to the University’s students and dependent spouses. Duties include providing direct clinical client care to a diverse student population, including intake evaluations, developing individualized treatment plans, leading individual or group therapy sessions, and making treatment referrals. Additional duties of the Manager include coordinating prevention outreach; recruiting, hiring, and supervising staff; proposing improvement initiatives; and creating and implementing assessment plans.

Major Responsibilities

  • To oversee the administrative and clinical day-to-day operations of the HWC program.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate HWC staff.
  • Coordinate strategic planning and set short-term and long-term goals in the areas of counseling, wellness, outreach, and consultation.
  • Oversee program development, operations, and assessment of Health, Wellness and Counseling services.
  • Provide psychological counseling services to students on an individual, marital, and group basis.
  • Provide crisis intervention, triage, assessment, and same day emergency appointments as well as assist other departments in addressing student crisis situations as they arise.
  • Participate in rotating on-call after-hours phone support.
  • Manage, create, and deliver student centered health and wellness outreach programming (i.e. presentations, workshops, focus groups).
  • Develop and maintain clinical policies and procedures to ensure adherence to the highest clinical standards.
  • Oversee administration of confidential clinical records and information.
  • Collaborate with University Health Clinic and Psychiatric services as pertinent to student care.
  • Serve on University committees such as the Behavioral Intervention Team and the Community Mental Health Committee.
  • Coordinate student referrals to community practitioners.
  • Provide consultation to faculty, staff, and parents regarding student mental health needs.
  • Oversee HWC strategic planning.
  • Evaluate and assess HWC in accordance with University requirements; write yearly administrative reports.
  • Maintain active involvement in University-wide policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Maintain compliance and ethical standards of HWC and the University.

Other Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with campus departments.
  • Educate faculty and staff on working with students of concern and other mental health topics.
  • Inform the University community of best practices in college mental health counseling.
  • Support and assist University objectives and programs as appropriate (i.e. Orientation, Commencement, student leader training, and student development programs).
  • Participate in the overall administration of the Graduate Services and University by attending staff meetings, serving on committees, representing the Division and University as requested, and cooperatively assisting colleagues.
  • Provide student support that is sensitive to the social and cultural issues involved with an international university located in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
  • Other duties within the range of skills normally associated with this type of position, as required

Competencies

  • Knowledge of Counseling Center policies and procedures, goals, and professional standards as well as standard ethical guidelines.
  • Working knowledge of therapeutic treatment modalities for topics of relevance to a graduate level university population.
  • Strong knowledge of risk-assessment process.
  • Appreciation of college student needs, demonstrated cultural competency, and sensitivity to and experience with diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Able to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced environment; works independently yet successful in a team setting. 
  • Able to manage, lead, guide, direct, or influence people. Exhibits strong strategic and operational decision-making skills.
  • Able to be relied upon to perform a task in the way required and to complete the assigned job duties and responsibilities.
  • Possesses excellent verbal communication, writing, and correspondence skills, as well as public speaking abilities.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills needed to work effectively across culturally diverse community.

Qualifications

  • PhD, PsyD, or equivalent advanced certificate in Psychology
  • Currently licensed as a psychologist from national or regional accrediting body

Experience Required

  • 5 years of related experience within a University setting and with demonstration of gradually increasing responsibility/leadership
  • Experience with Titanium or similar electronic record systems. 
  • Preference for “Advocate” or “Maxient” knowledge.
  • Fluent in English. 
  • Strong preference fluency in second language.
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse cultural populations
  • Excellent and persuasive communicator with the confidence to gain credibility and respect
