Applications are invited for appointment as Research Officer in the Department of Medicine and the State Key Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology (Ref.: 499284), to commence as soon as possible on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance.

Applicants should have a doctoral degree with at least 4 years’ full-time work experience, or a Master’s degree with at least 9 years’ full-time work experience.  The academic degree should be in Medicine, Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Immunology or a related discipline.  Experience and a track record in protein chemistry, immunoassays, clinical diagnosis, antibody production and purification, and animal handling would be advantages.  Applicants should also possess effective communication skill and a strong interest in working closely with biologists and clinicians; be highly motivated, innovative, independent; and be able to perform in a multidisciplinary team environment and multitask.

The appointee is expected to work on the expression and purification of proteins using different systems (bacteria/yeast cell/insect cell/mammalian cell expression systems), generation of monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies, and development of innovative immunoassays for clinical diagnosis.  He/She will also coordinate with other team members and industrial partners to develop, optimize and validate assays, and bring the assay products to clinical applications. 

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.  Housing benefits will also be provided as applicable.
