Director of the Masaryk Memorial Cancer Institute and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University announces a selection procedure for the position of a Department Head for:

Department of Surgical Oncology

Department of Surgical Oncology (DSO) is a therapeutic, educational and research clinic of the MMCI and the Faculty of Medicine of MU. It deals with the treatment of malignant tumours, especially of breast, digestive tract, urogenital and gynaecological tumours, malignant melanoma and soft tissue sarcomas. DSO is functionally divided into specialised departments: Department of Mammocutaneous and Oncoplastic Surgery, Department of Surgical Oncology, Department of Gynecological Oncology, Department of Urological Oncology and Central Operating Theatres. DSO has fully developed programs of classical, endoscopic, laparoscopic and robotic surgery in oncosurgery. In addition to surgical treatment, medicamentous anticancer treatment is applied locally and systemically at the clinic workplaces.

The candidate for the position of a Department Head must be a respected expert in the field of surgical treatment of solid tumours, with experience of working in a multidisciplinary oncology team at a complex cancer centre and with expertise in pre-graduate and postgraduate education.

The Head of the DSO will be responsible for the management of the clinic, undergraduate medical education, doctoral studies, publishing and coordination of research conducted at the clinic. The Candidate for Department Head will present his/her idea of fulfilling the above during the selection process.

Requirements for a declared position:

  • University education in general medicine or equivalent education acquired abroad
  • Eligibility to pursue the profession of physician in the relevant field in accordance with Section 5 of Act No. 95/2004 Coll.
  • At least five years of experience in the field at the workplace of the health care provider, which is part of a comprehensive cancer centre
  • Habilitation within the meaning of Act No. 111/1998 Coll., on Higher Education, as amended, or a prerequisite for achieving it within three years is welcomed
  • Personal and professional requirements for managing the medical and academic team of the clinic
  • Teaching experience and readiness to guarantee vocational subjects taught at the workplace
  • Scientific and publishing activities in the given field
  • Moral integrity
