As the oldest and largest foreign university in Japan, Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ) is vital in promoting one of the university's core values: global education. Temple seeks a dean of TUJ who will enhance the university's ability to create a unique intellectual environment that transcends borders.

Launched as a branch campus of Temple University in 1982, TUJ is a gateway and global presence for the university, running its own degree and research programs and supporting Main Campus research, collaborations and connections throughout Japan and beyond. Serving nearly 4,000 students including an undergraduate population that now exceeds 1,300 students from approximately 60 countries, the diverse student body helps make TUJ a rich, dynamic and stimulating campus. In addition to its core undergraduate program, TUJ offers graduate programs in law, business, and education; an English-language preparation program; continuing education courses; and corporate education classes. After 36 years in Tokyo and more than two decades in its Minato City location, TUJ recently moved into a new six-story building on the campus of Showa Women’s University in Setagaya, Tokyo. The university seeks an experienced, collaborative, visionary and student-centered professional to further TUJ's trajectory of substantial expansion in overall academic strength, enrollment, curriculum and programs, facilities and local initiatives. The dean of TUJ also serves as the CEO of Temple Educational Support Services Ltd. (TESS), a Japanese for-profit corporation through which the educational operations of TUJ are conducted. Reporting directly to the university's provost, the dean works with colleagues in Tokyo and Philadelphia to define and implement a distinctive vision that further strengthens TUJ and Temple University as a leader in international education. The dean is responsible for all aspects of TUJ including academic excellence, promoting research and innovation, and the experience and well-being of its students, as well as the administrative, financial and operational components of the campus.

The ideal candidate will be an accomplished leader who understands the academic culture of American higher education and brings significant international experience and the relationships and insights that derive from involvement in that arena. This is an opportunity for an academic leader with financial acumen and business savvy to run a highly complex campus. Serving as the chief academic as well as chief executive officer, the dean must have a demonstrated commitment to the continued excellence of TUJ's academic programs, teaching and research as well as its overall program and student, faculty and staff experience. Continuing to raise the visibility of TUJ both internally and externally, the dean must have strong interpersonal, collaboration and communication skills and the intercultural sensitivity and ability to work across a wide range of cultures. The dean will also play a key role in furthering Temple University's success in global education, making a significant impact on the lives of the university’s students and on its ability to have a positive impact on the world both now and into the future. A doctoral or terminal degree, proficiency in Japanese and deep familiarity with Japan is preferred.
