The Faculty of Science, Agriculture, Business and Law includes four Schools: Environmental and Rural Science, Law, Science and Technology and the UNE Business School. The Faculty also consists of UNE Rural properties and the Science and Engineering Workshop. The Faculty comprises of approximately 300 academic staff and professional staff, 95 research staff and over 300 postgraduate students.

The School of Science and Technology comprises subject disciplines including Biomedical Science, Chemistry and Physics, Exercise and Sport Science, Mathematics, Statistics and ComputerScience. The School conducts teaching and research through an exciting range of undergraduate,honours, and postgraduate courses and research degrees by dissertation within these disciplines. These courses are offered via on campus and flexible online education modes. Additionally, the research performance of a number of our disciplines was assessed at 'well above world standard' in the 2018 ERA ratings for research excellence.

About the role

As a Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in the discipline of Statistics you will join a collegial and mutually supportive school located within a rural city. A substantial part of the School’s teaching is online, within a supportive pedagogic framework for students.

Within this role you will provide leadership and future direction in teaching and research to the discipline, be active in research and attracting external funding and take a key role in the continued development of the statistics programs.

The successful applicant will be expected to make a service contribution to the institution and  will contribute to and maintain or improve the discipline’s future ERA ratings by producing high quality publications and other research outputs. It is expected that the successful applicantwould provide research expertise in theoretical and/or applied statistics, showing evidence of this by a publication record, and the potential to attract competitive grant funding.

Skills & Experience

Potential applicants will need to possess a demonstrated proficiency in the use of computers and a willingness to adapt to new software environments, especially in the area of the delivery of teaching to external students.  Assistance will be provided to acquire the necessary technical skills to use the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) at UNE.

The successful applicant for this position will be able to teach across a broad range of statistics classes, ranging from large first-year service classes to specialised classes delivered in on- and off-campus education modes.

Applicants should have an interest in multi-disciplinary scientific research applying statistics in agricultural, biological, computational, environmental, or mathematical sciences.
