Helsinki Institute of Life Science, HiLIFE (https://www.helsinki.fi/en/helsinki-institute-of-life-science), is a new life science institute at the University of Helsinki established in 2017 supporting high quality research across campuses and life science faculties. HiLIFE builds on existing strengths, new recruits and partnerships to create an attractive international environment for solving grand challenges in health, food, and environment. It coordinates research infrastructures in life sciences, provides research-based interdisciplinary training and supports researchers within its units and partner faculties. In 2019 HiLIFE has a staff of 600 and budget of 59 M€.
Our lab is located within the HiLIFE unit Institute of Biotechnology, Viikki campus. The Institute of Biotechnology (BI) (https://www.helsinki.fi/en/hilife-institute-of-biotechnology) is an international research unit within the Helsinki Institute of Life Science (HiLIFE) of the University of Helsinki. Research groups at BI conduct research and develop infrastructures in biotechnology and modern biosciences at the highest international level, actively applying the results for the benefit of society.

Post-doctoral researcher and/or PhD student in cell biology of the endocytic cytoskeleton
We offer you a highly collaborative, supportive and international research environment. The working language of the institute is English. Our research goal is to understand the molecular logic behind the dynamics of the actin cytoskeleton at endocytic sites and how disturbances in this process affect physiology and disease progression.
Projects in the lab involve Super-resolution imaging and analysis, protein biochemistry, CRISPR/Cas9 genome engineering and drug screens. Successful candidates will be able to decide which projects suit best their interests and expertise.
Our lab offers a 3-year fixed-term contract for postdocs and a 4-year fixed-term contract for PhD students. Candidates will be encouraged to apply for their own funding.

The successful Doctoral and/or Postdoctoral candidates will hold an excellent Master Degree (or equivalent) and/or PhD in Biology with a specialization in Cell Biology and/or Biochemistry. In addition, the Postdoctoral candidate will have a proven record of excellence in the above-mentioned research areas, whereas the Doctoral candidate will have a strong potential for excellence in research. Previous experience with cellular and molecular biology techniques is essential. Experience with super-resolution microscopy and/or protein purification using multiple expression systems is definite plus.
