About the position

The Department of Mathematical Sciences at NTNU is Norway’s largest university environment in mathematical sciences with 85 permanent staff members and about 100 doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows.

Main duties and responsibilities

The vacant postdoctoral fellowship is intended to give a promising candidate an opportunity to pursue research at an advanced level.

Preference will be given to candidates who have a strong potential to strengthen the current research areas, or can provide a bridge between the different research activities in the department.

Knowledge of Norwegian or another Scandinavian language is highly desirable due to the need for teaching assistance in several of the introductory mathematics or statistics courses. A successful Norwegian candidate is required to spend at least 6 months abroad.

A postdoctoral fellow who speaks a Scandinavian language will be employed for 3 years with teaching and other duties of approximately 33% of the total available time. A postdoctoral fellow who does not master a Scandinavian language will be offered a 2-year appointment.

Qualification requirements

A postdoctoral research fellowships is a qualification position in which the main objective is qualification for work in academic positions. Completion of a Norwegian doctoral degree within one of the research areas of the Department or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree is required.

PhD students in their last year are invited to apply; employment will then be postponed until the PhD degree is finished

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, postdoctor and research assistant.

Salary and conditions

Postdoctoral candidates are remunerated in code 1352, and are normally remunerated at gross from NOK 523 200 before tax per year. From the salary, 2 % is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The period of employment is 2 years without teaching, or 3 years with teaching and other duties of approximately 33% of the total available time.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criterias in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.
