The John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) at Harvard University seeks applicants for a tenure-track faculty position in Robotics, with an expected start date of July 1, 2020. We invite applications in the broadly defined areas of dynamics and control; perception, autonomy and machine learning; and human-robot interaction. However, applications from candidates in all areas of robotics and automation will also be considered.

Robotics research at Harvard benefits from outstanding undergraduate and graduate students, an excellent location relative to neighboring schools and Harvard’s teaching hospitals, significant industrial collaboration, and substantial support from SEAS. Candidates are required to have a doctorate or terminal degree by the expected start date.

Additional Qualifications

We seek candidates who have a strong research record and commitment to undergraduate teaching and graduate training. In particular, we are looking for broadly educated and multidisciplinary applicants who can interact with a wide range of faculty in robotics and other areas of SEAS. We particularly encourage applications from historically underrepresented groups, including women and minorities.

Special Instructions

Required application documents are a cover letter, CV, a statement of research interests, a teaching statement, and up to three representative papers. SEAS is a highly interdisciplinary environment without traditional departments, but the teaching statement should indicate a primary teaching area (e.g. computer science, electrical engineering, or mechanical engineering). In addition, we ask for a statement describing efforts to encourage diversity, inclusion, and belonging, including past, current, and anticipated future contributions in these areas. Candidates are also required to submit the names and contact information for at least three and up to five references, and the application is complete only when three letters have been submitted. At least one letter must come from someone who has not served as the candidate’s undergraduate, graduate, or postdoctoral advisor.
