At TU Dresden, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Department of Forest Sciences, the Institute of Forest Utilization and Forest Technology invites applications for the Chair (W2) of Forest Utilization to be filled at 01.04.2021.

The position holder is required to represent the Forest Utilization in research and teaching. The profile of the chair stands at the interface between wood production in forestry and efficient use of raw products for material and energetic purposes. It covers the anatomy of the natural raw material, the wood utilization in the grown structure, possibilities of use in wood-composite material as well as the investigation of non-wood forest products in Europe, in the tropics and subtropics. In doing so, new climatic frameworks (e.g. plants/wood species, raw material structure/composition) must be taken in account. Methodological bases offer among others scanning electron microscopy, dendrochronology, and physical wood testing. In teaching on Bachelor’s and Master’s degree (such as Forest Science, Tropical Forestry, WoodTtechnology and Timber Economy) the chair provides contents in the field of Wood Science, Wood Recycling and Wood Ue. The maintenance and further development of the existing worldwide cooperation with partners in Science, industry and development cooperation is also expected. The duties include participation in academic selfadministration. The cooperation is desired in the Centre for International Postgraduate Studies of Environmental Management - CIPSEM of TU Dresden as well as in the Saxony-wide network LignoSax. The collaboration with the Dresden-based Institute for Integrated Management of Material Fluxes and Resources (UNU-FLORES) of the United Nations University is expected.

The applicant shall have in-depth knowledge and experience in the anatomical research of forest-related raw materials at the interface to forestry and the material use as construction material. Interest and aptitude for interdisciplinary cooperation with adjacent scientific disciplines at TU Dresden and active cooperation with national and international partners (e.g. Staatsbetrieb Sachsenforst, Institute für Holztechnologie Dresden gGmbH, European Forest Institute) are expected. We are looking for an internationally recognized scientist who is identified by high-ranking publications. Involvement in the international research community and experience in the acquisition of third-party funding are expected.  Teaching in English language is required, which demands for excellent English language skills.
