Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Associate Professor/Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering, specializing in ‘Biomedical Engineering’ (Ref.: 499108), to commence as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.

Top-ranked in the world, The Faculty of Engineering of the University of Hong Kong operates the Biomedical Engineering programme jointly with the Faculty of Medicine. With 10 core faculty members and a great number of affiliated members, the programme is well-equipped with teaching and research facilities and support. Faculty members under the  programme also supervise M.Phil. and Ph.D. students through the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. The successful candidate will be invited to join one of the Departments in the Faculty as his/her home department.

Applicant should possess a Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering or a related engineering field with an excellent research record. Applicants with commitment to collaborative and interdisciplinary research, in areas including but not limited to biomaterials and tissue engineering, cell and tissue mechanics, cell niche engineering, mechanoregulation, biophysics, single cell manipulations; advanced medical imaging methods, magnetic resonance imaging, biophotonics, multiscale brain imaging; bioelectronics including wearable devices; bio-inspired or bio-mimicking devices and algorithms; or advanced technologies such as those for advanced bio-manufacturing, diagnostics and advanced therapeutics, in relation to these areas, will be considered. The appointee is also expected to participate in undergraduate teaching in the Biomedical Engineering Programme.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
