The University expects its graduates to be proficient in English, Arabic, the use of computing technology, and qualitative and quantitative and research skills. English is the primary language of instruction and administration.

Zayed University is fully accredited in the UAE and by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education in the US.

The United Arab Emirates is a progressive country known for its high standard of living and its safe, family-friendly, multi-national environment.

The Department

The Department of Advising and Academic Development is one of five departments within University College. Through its innovative General Education common core curriculum, University College offers students a high-quality, foundational first-year program, designed to prepare them for their future majors and professional careers.  The experience instills in the students a desire for lifelong learning, fosters intellectual curiosity, and engenders critical thinking. The General Education program initiates the baccalaureate careers of all ZU students and has as its goal to build students’ understanding of their relation to the world and to equip them to be successful at the University, in their professions and in their personal lives through an integrated, skill-rich, interdisciplinary core curriculum.

Faculty in the Department of Advising and Academic Development are responsible for the First Year Experience of the entire student body of entrants into the university. Faculty are responsible for teaching courses in Life Skills and Advising. The first course includes the more traditional topics of academic and personal adjustment to university life, and then it is through Advising that faculty support and guide students with their academic choices. The advising/mentoring role is as important as teaching; it is through advising classes and individual advising appointments that faculty mentor students and help them navigate university life. Faculty members teach and advise fifteen credit hours per week.  Additionally, they are expected to have a consistent pace of engagement with their discipline/profession; they are expected to be active members of the University and College community.

The Opportunity

The Department of Advising and Academic Development is seeking experienced academic advising faculty to serve as academic advisors for first-year general education students, and to teach in areas for which they are credentialed such as in student development, career exploration, and skills for life. We seek faculty who possess a strong commitment to teaching the University’s core curriculum, and who are advocates of general education as understood in the US model of education. Candidates will be familiar with first year-experience and with leadership curricula, and they will value teaching introductory student development courses.

Teaching load at Zayed University is established at five courses per semester for instructors. Teaching within University College is a unique opportunity to join a progressive College that is actively working to enhance the education of young people in one of the world’s most dynamic nations. Successful candidates will demonstrate excellence in student-centered teaching and will be committed to practices that ensure student success.
