About the position

We have a vacancy for a Postdoc in flexible and efficient production systems for mass-cuztomized product at The department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at NTNU. 

The PostDoc position is connected to the newly established research project SmartFab, a project aiming at developing and implementing innovative and sustainable manufacturing solutions for the SMB segment – achieving 40 % cost reduction and 20 % lower lead times.Combining the need for more flexible and adaptive production facilities with Industry 4.0 principles, the project shall implement and demonstrate solutions that directly can be transferred to partner companies and indirectly be disseminated to other SMB industries in Norway.

Haugstad Møbel, Norgesvinduet and Jærtek are the industrial partners and use-cases, whilst Sintef Manufacturing, Sintef Digital and NTNU are main research partners. 

The position reports to Professor Geir Ringen

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Design principles for product architecture and modularization, where increased functionality, multi-material solutions, customization, sustainability and integration of enabling technologies are to be considered.
  • Integrated product- and process development methods for defining production systems suitable for mass-customized products within the SMB segment. 
  • Define and verify digitization principles and methods enabling future sustainable and flexible production systems
  • Implementation strategies of the above-mentioned aspects – focusing on risk, time and cost reduction.     

Qualification requirements

A postdoctoral research fellowships is a qualification position in which the main objective is qualification for work in academic positions. Completion of a Norwegian doctoral degree in mechanical and industrial engineering or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree is required.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, post doctor and research assistant.

  • Good written and oral English and Norwegian language skills
  • Knowlede of Industry 4.0 principles
  • Knowledge of the SMB Segment

Salary and conditions

Postdoc:

Postdoctoral candidates are remunerated in code 1352, and are normally remunerated at gross from NOK 523 200 before tax per year. From the salary, 2 % is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The period of employment is 2 years. 

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criterias in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.
