The Faculty of Social Sciences at Lund University is one of the leading education and research institutions in Sweden and operates both in Lund and Helsingborg. The Department of Sociology is home to Pedagogics, Social Anthropology and Sociology, with significant teaching commitments in all three disciplines. Research in the department span from empirical studies of contemporary social issues to critical theory, and the development of theory and methods.
We are looking for two post docs with high scientific competence and a strong wish to contribute to our research environment. The work duties consist of research (80%) and teaching (20%) at all levels.
Qualifications and assessment
To be appointed as a postdoc requires a PhD or an equivalent degree in sociology from abroad, or has acquired the equivalent research expertise in other ways, shall be considered eligible. The PhD is to have been obtained within the past three (3) years at the time of the application deadline (exceptions can be made only under special circumstances). The PhD requirement must be fulfilled at the time of application. The basis for assessment is the ability to develop and conduct high quality research, as well as teaching skills.
Research expertise will be the primary focus of evaluation. The applicants must be able to demonstrate documented research expertise through the quality of their doctoral thesis and other publications. The applicants are to conduct research that clearly relates to the research in the department. A research plan (maximum 4 pages) is to be attached to the application, showing what research the applicant intends to pursue, and how it relates to the research at the department.
The applications are assessed with regard to the following criteria:
- the relevance and strength of the research plan, and its links to the department’s research;
- the quality of the research output, and its links to the department’s research;
- other qualifications proving the applicant’s research skills.
- Good teaching abilities.
- It is also important that applicants intend to be physically located in Lund so that they can contribute to the department’s research environment.

- Research plan that clearly shows how the research relates to ongoing research at the department, maximum 4 pages.
- CV and copies of degree certificate
- List of publications
- Up to five (5)representative publications
- 5. Contact information to three (3) references

A postdoc fellowship is a career development position specialising in research, and is to be an initial step in the applicant’s career.
Please note that a person who has previously been employed as a postdoc at Lund University for more than a year cannot be employed as a postdoc again within the same or similar subject at the University.
