Cranfield is an exclusively postgraduate university and a global leader in applied and translational research in science and technology. The Soil and Agrifood Institute is internationally-recognised with some of the best plant and soil research facilities in Europe.

This post will contribute to two projects under Professor Guy Kirk: ‘Mechanisms and genetics of iron toxicity tolerance in African rice’ (funded by BBSRC with partners at AfricaRice and the University of Antananarivo, Madagascar) and ‘Novel fertilizer formulations for African agriculture exploiting plant-soil interactions’ (funded by ORC Group with partners at UM6P Morocco and Rothamsted Research).

We are looking for an environmental modeller interested in understanding soil constraints to agricultural systems in low and middle income countries, and technologies for sustainable crop improvement. You will have a PhD (obtained or near completion) inenvironmental modelling. You will have experience with geospatial and mechanistic modelling techniques and environmental data science, as well as a high level analytical capability and a publication record commensurate with your career stage.

The post will include short periods of travel to work with project partners in Africa.

For an informal discussion, please contact Prof Guy Kirk, Professor of Soil Systems on +44 (0)1234 758068 or g.kirk@cranfield.ac.uk.
