The School of Divinity, History and Philosophy seeks to appoint a Lecturer (Teaching and Research) in Philosophy.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in Philosophy and will be able to show evidence of high-quality research through publications and research activities (commensurate with career stage). Experience of applying for research grants and of the public communication of research would be an advantage. Applicants may specialize in any area of philosophy.

The Lecturer will conduct research and publish the outcomes of their research in high-quality venues in their area of specialization. They will participate in research activities such as conferences, seminars, and public engagement events. They will develop and deliver high-quality teaching in Philosophy at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, engaging in all aspects of course development, delivery, and assessment, at all levels of study as required within the Philosophy curriculum. They will liaise effectively with academic and support staff, and will make positive contributions to the University’s practices of student monitoring, academic support, pastoral care, personal tutoring, new course development, and student retention and recruitment activities.

The Lecturer will be expected to undertake some administrative duties as determined by the Head of Discipline, and to participate in departmental activities including research seminars and student recruitment events.

This is a fixed-term post of one year, expected to commence no later than 30 June 2020.

Salary will be paid at the rate of £41,526 per annum on Grade 7 of the University Salary Scale.  

Any appointment will be made subject to satisfactory references and a 6 month probation period.

As this post is to provide a period of teaching and research it is available for 12 months with the latest start date being 30 June 2020.
