Manchester Metropolitan University
Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Faculty of Business and Law
Manchester Metropolitan University has developed a clear vision and a compelling strategy. Its ambition is simple: to be the strongest and most distinctive modern university in the sector, where students and staff alike are equipped with every resource to excel, and play a full and rewarding role in furthering Manchester’s enviable reputation as a global university city. With a refreshed academic strategy, research awards growing at double digit rates year on year, improved student metrics, a 25-place uplift in league table position, a strong financial platform, and a £380m capital programme, few universities could be better placed to succeed.
These achievements and others have resulted in a new-found confidence amongst members of the University. This, coupled with a strong sense of collegiality, means that there is an equally ambitious vision for the next five years. As part of this ongoing transformation, the University is now seeking to appoint an exceptional new Pro-Vice-Chancellor to lead the Faculty of Business and Law.
Bringing together the Manchester Metropolitan Business School and Manchester Law School, the Faculty is housed in an award-winning building in the centre of Manchester. With over 9,000 students, it is one of the largest and most popular in the UK; offering a breadth of subject matter, depth of expertise and level of resource far beyond the norm. Building on this platform of strength, the new PVC will further develop the reach, reputation and impact of the Faculty, ensuring an outstanding academic experience and output that is informed, influenced and enriched by relationships with industry, business and the wider stakeholder community.
To deliver the above, the University requires an exceptional academic leader; someone with extensive senior leadership experience, vision, and a proven track record of delivering genuine success. An in-depth understanding of core disciplinary areas relevant to the work of the Faculty will be vital, as will a global perspective. As a key member of the University Executive Group, the new PVC will also make a major contribution to the ongoing development of one of the UK’s most progressive modern universities. A deep commitment to the values and ethos of the institution is therefore essential.
