The School of Natural Sciences at the University of Tasmania is a provider of world-class research and teaching, offering undergraduate and postgraduate programs at the University's campuses in Hobart and Launceston. Research within the discipline of Physics concentrates in radio and optical astronomy and geophysics with observatories in four Australian states, including:

• A 26 metre radio telescope near Hobart with good performance from 1 to 30 cm wavelength
• A 30 metre radio telescope near Ceduna, SA
• A VLBI network of 12 m telescopes located near Yarragadee (WA), Katherine (NT), and Hobart used for astronomical and geodetic VLBI in collaboration with CSIRO Astronomy and Space Science.
• A 50-inch optical telescope at our Greenhill Observatory at a dark site in the Tasmanian midlands.

Preference will be given to candidates who are able to utilise the University of Tasmania’s astronomical or High-Performance Computing infrastructure in their research activities.

The Opportunity

The Lecturer in Physics is a full-time, continuing position (flexible options available) with balanced research and teaching duties. The teaching supports the delivery of our undergraduate and Honours B.Sc. degrees. The appointee will join a group of 7 academic and 3 technical staff to become part of a vibrant and intellectually active environment with strong links to other disciplines within the School and College.

Key Accountabilities:

• Make a valuable and quality contribution in Physics that supports the University deliver its strategic goals and operational responsibilities.
• Develop your skills and capabilities academic leadership and team work to foster outstanding research and/or learning and teaching.
• Undertake high-quality research of national standing, seek to secure external funding, publish research findings and successfully supervise research higher degree students to completion.
• Undertake scholarly undergraduate (and if relevant postgraduate) coursework teaching of an exemplary quality.
• Actively develop and nurture productive networks within the University and locally and nationally with the discipline, relevant interdisciplinary domains, profession, industry and/or wider community.

Remuneration

Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level B and will have a total remuneration package of up to $133,842 comprising base salary within the range of $98,537 to $114,395 plus 17% superannuation.
