We are seeking a Research Fellow to contribute across the project to the development of knowledge relating to trust and accountability issues surrounding intelligent systems. Specifically, the post will help  identify accountability challenges associated with a number of real-world use cases (working closely with project partners), will examine attitudes towards accountability and transparency (targeting the general public and researchers/developers), and will explore current and emerging practices via a series of co-design workshops with stakeholders from the legal profession, policy-makers, consumer groups and developers.

You will have a PhD or be about to complete a PhD in user-centred design, human-computer interaction or a cognate discipline.

You should have a good knowledge of user-centred innovation with particular emphasis on how innovations are co-designed by individuals, institutions and various public bodies. In addition, you should be able to effectively translate user input into implementable design decisions.

Enthusiasm for digital technology and innovation relevant to society and the economy is essential, as is the ability to work as part of a cross-disciplinary team. In addition, you should be able to effectively communicate with a range of stakeholders, including industry partners, government and user groups.

Experience of research income generation is desirable.

Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 6 salary scale (£33,797) and negotiable with placement according to qualifications and experience.  Consideration will be given to making an appointment at Research Assistant level, Grade 5, for individuals in the final stages of completing their PhD.

As this post is externally funded by EPSRC it is available from 1 January 2020 to 31 December 2021.

Any appointment will be made subject to satisfactory references and a 6 month probation period.
