The Department of Infectious Diseases and Public Health is located in the Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences at City University. The Department has a focus on One Health, an area connecting the health of animals, humans and the environment. City University is now establishing a new joint position in Public Health and Environmental Microbiology that will link the Department with the well-established School of Energy and Environment at City University. The intention is for the joint appointee to enhance the One Health agenda, undertaking collaborative research in environmental aspects of antimicrobial resistance as an important part of their duties.

Duties

Based in the Department of Infectious Diseases and Public Health, the appointee is expected to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in the Department, as well as in the School of Energy and Environment; undertake collaborative cross-disciplinary research in environmental aspects of antimicrobial resistance and related topics, in a One Health context; and carry out administrative work and other duties to facilitate the development of the Department and School.  Laboratory experimentations, field observation and/or modeling are welcomed.

Requirements

A PhD in Public Health and Environmental Microbiology, with experience in studying antimicrobial resistance, microbial genomics and metagenomics in an environmental context.  Candidates should have demonstrable evidence of research success (including the ability to obtain research funding), strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively as a member of an academic team, and an ability to deliver courses in English.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be driven by market competitiveness and individual performance.  Excellent fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes, and relocation assistance (where applicable).  Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract.
