University of Leeds

Vice-Chancellor

The University of Leeds is one of the largest, most prestigious and diverse research-intensive universities in the UK. We are a founding member of both the Russell Group and the Worldwide Universities Network, and our academic excellence in research and innovation, student education and knowledge exchange has been recognised in recent years in a series of institutional awards. We achieved Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework, we were the Sunday Times University of the Year 2017, we are in the world’s top 100 universities in the QS rankings and in the UK’s top 10 for research power and impact. These successes are supported by an outstanding community of staff and students, a world-class campus and a strong financial position. The University also plays a key role at the heart of one of the UK’s most economically vibrant and compassionate cities, and takes its economic, social, environmental and cultural responsibilities very seriously.

Our current Vice-Chancellor, Sir Alan Langlands, has indicated his intention to stand down at the end of this academic year after seven successful years in post. We are therefore seeking to appoint an exceptional leader to build on the University’s many achievements, enhancing our position at a time of significant change in higher education in the UK and around the world.

An astute strategist, with strong leadership skills and highly developed intellectual acuity, the successful candidate will have the experience, track record, clarity of vision and management acumen to provide direction in a world-class academic environment. Values driven and with good interpersonal skills, the successful candidate will inspire and engage with staff and students, and extend our global reach, impact and reputation.

This is an exciting opportunity to maintain the upward trajectory of one of the UK’s highest-performing universities, ensuring a leading position at a time of change in higher education, and exploring new possibilities to strengthen our student experience and all-round academic excellence still further. If you have the right experience, skills and track record of success and share our passion and ambition, we would be delighted to hear from you.
