The Society of Fellows in the Humanities is a prestigious initiative that aims to attract exceptional, early-career postdoctoral scholars from around the world to Asia's Global University. Located in one of the world's most dynamic cities and on Mainland China's doorstep, the University of Hong Kong offers unique opportunities to engage in cutting-edge research through its commitment to innovation and interdisciplinarity.

The Faculty of Arts is one of the University's oldest and largest faculties and is consistently recognized as the first in Asia for the Arts and Humanities. Its international outlook is reflected in the incredible diversity of its staff and students and its collaborations with other top universities around the globe.

The Society is seeking outstanding applicants for up to six Postdoctoral Fellowships, to commence on August 1, 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter, for a period of three years.

The Society aims to establish a vibrant research community in which Fellows interact with each other and other members of the Faculty. Fellows will be expected to teach two courses during the term of their appointment, and will be required to submit a brief, annual summary of their activities and accomplishments. The University of Hong Kong is an English-medium university. A host department within the Faculty of Arts will be selected on the basis of a Fellow’s proposed area of research.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree conferred after January 1, 2017. Candidates will have defended or submitted their dissertation by December 31, 2019 and their degree conferred not later than March 31, 2020.  They will not be currently employed in tenure-track positions.

A highly competitive package including housing allowance, medical benefits, annual leave, and conference and research support will be offered to the successful applicants. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.

The University only accepts online application for the above post.  Applicants should apply online and upload an up-to-date C.V., cover letter (not exceeding 300 words), a research proposal (not exceeding 1500 words), and a writing sample to the Faculty via the online system.  Three letters of recommendation shall be sent directly to the Society at sofhku@hku.hk by the referees.  Applications will be vetted by a panel of scholars from across the spectrum of the arts and the humanities.  Further particulars can be obtained from http://arts.hku.hk/sof.

Closes January 7, 2020.

Successful applicants will be notified by the end of March 2020.

The University is committed to diversity and inclusivity.  To promote gender diversity and professional advancement of women as well as men, the Faculty of Arts expressly encourages qualified persons from both genders to apply.
