POSTDOCTORAL POSITION IN YEAST CELL BIOLOGY

(ref. BAP-2019-701)

The Functional Biology group of KU Leuven is a dynamic team conducting high-level research on mechanisms underlying nutrient signaling, pH and calcium homeostasis and the functioning of different organelles. The team uses this knowhow to develop yeast models allowing to get fundamental insight in the pathobiology of a variety of human proteopathies. Responsibilities

The candidate will be responsible to coordinate, supervise and execute the research on the role of lysosomes, vesicular trafficking and lipid signaling in neurodegenerative disordersusing yeast as model system. This includes the optimization and standardization of several assays, the documentation of different molecular signaling events and the study of several yeast phenotypic readouts. The candidate must also write reports, scientific articles and projects to obtain extra funding.

Profile

  • The candidate must have a PhD in the field of biology, biochemistry, bioengineering or biomedical sciences, or equivalent and an excellent scientific background in cell biology, preferably yeast cell biology.
  • Apart from being a true team player, the candidate is expected to exhibit a high degree of independence, to have a problem-solving attitude and have strong analytical and technical abilities in addition to excellent communication and presentation skills with proficient knowledge of written and spoken English.
  • The candidate has a strong publication record.
  • Knowledge of statistics and/or bioinformatics is an asset.

Offer

1 year postdoctoral position with possibility of extension provided a positive evaluation. The position is open as of January 6th, 2020.
