Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Clinical Associate Professor/Clinical Assistant Professor in Implant Dentistry in the Faculty of Dentistry (Ref.:498937) (2 posts), to commence as soon as possible on a four-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal upon mutual agreement and with consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second four-year fixed-term contract. 

The HKU Faculty of Dentistry is the only dental school in Hong Kong and is the only one in Greater China that uses English as the medium of instruction.  The Faculty offers both undergraduate and postgraduate dental education, which is internationally renowned.  The Faculty’s strategic research themes are Biomedical Engineering and Biofunctional Materials, Oral Microbiome and Health Initiative, Population Oral Health, and Smart Health Technology and Potentially Malignant Oral Disease.  The high quality of the Faculty’s teaching and learning, clinical services and research excellence have won global recognition, as evidenced by the Faculty’s World Number One Ranking by the QS World University Ranking by Subject in the years 2016, 2017 and 2018.  The Faculty also plays an important role in public and professional education through its knowledge exchange activities as well as in dental and oral health research, and promotions in international, regional and local communities.

Applicants should have experience in post-graduate teaching in Implant Dentistry, interest in development of undergraduate teaching programmes in Implant Dentistry, and clinical practice covering most aspects of Implant Dentistry.  They should be motivated to pursue an academic career in the field, be a good team player, and be innovative and interested in interdisciplinary care, teaching and research.  The appointees will participate in teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate level, clinical and/or basic research, and service related to patient care and administration. 

For appointment as Clinical Associate Professor, applicants should possess a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Dentistry, clinical specialist or equivalent status in Implant Dentistry, Prosthodontics or Periodontology, advanced training or experience in Implant Dentistry and a Ph.D. degree or equivalent.  They should also have (i) proven evidence for quality research, publications in high quality international journals, and local and regional recognition for scholarship and professional expertise; and significant research portfolio in Implant Dentistry as senior/independent investigator; (ii) demonstrated ability in undergraduate and postgraduate education, clinical practice and research; (iii) active participation in Faculty and University affairs; and (iv) solid experience in knowledge exchange (KE) activities and leadership in professional education programmes or community engagement.  The appointee will assume the duties of Programme Director for the Master of Dental Surgery and the Master of Sciences in Implant Dentistry.

For appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor, applicants should possess a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Dentistry, and a Master of Dental Surgery degree or equivalent in Implant Dentistry, Prosthodontics or Periodontology, and advanced training or experience in Implant Dentistry.  They should also have (i) ability in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and clinical practice; (ii) potential for and interest in research; and good research portfolio in Implant Dentistry as junior investigator; (iii) ability and willingness to participate in Faculty affairs; and (iv) experience in KE activities.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointments will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.  Housing benefits will also be provided as applicable.
