With the support from the Hong Kong Government on Knowledge Transfer and in line with HKUST’s mission to contribute to the economic and social development of Hong Kong and the region, HKUST is inviting competent and dedicated professional to join the knowledge transfer team taking up the role of Director of Technology Transfer Center.

Director of Technology Transfer Center

The Position

Reporting to the Associate Vice-President for Knowledge Transfer (AVP-KT), key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting the AVP-KT in developing HKUST’s overall KT strategies, policies and programs, and promoting KT collaborations with other universities, research institutes, and local governments;
  • Managing startup venture funds for HKUST, shares portfolio of startup companies and licensees;
  • Providing strategic oversight, facilitation, and coordination of HKUST’s Intellectual Property (IP) Management;
  • Managing HKUST’s technology/patent and talent-for-KT portfolios;
  • Proactively exploring industry collaboration opportunities;
  • Facilitating establishment of university-industry collaborative platforms and/or projects;
  • Nurturing tech entrepreneurs & mentoring new startups; and
  • Ensuring that risks and compliance obligations are appropriately managed.

In addition, the Director will also oversee the daily operation of a wholly owned subsidiary of HKUST to best support its knowledge transfer goals and practice.

The Person

The ideal candidate should possess the following attributes:

  • Solid experience, preferably in the university-industry knowledge and/or technology transfer fields; previous administrative experience in an education or applied research institution will be an advantage;
  • Ability to identify research collaboration potentials, business opportunities and challenges in high-tech industries;
  • Track record of initiating, managing and growing strategic partnerships with industries and research institutes for applied research and commercialisation;
  • Good knowledge of IP Management;
  • A higher degree in engineering, sciences or related disciplines; and
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills and command of written and spoken English; fluency in Chinese, including Cantonese and Putonghua will be advantage
