FIXED TERM - 1 Year

The Institute for Future Transport and Cities works across our all faculties focussing on the design and engineering of future transport systems.  The focus is on inclusive, sustainable and safe transport integrating the strongest research elements in design and engineering.  The Institute brings together a number of established and growing areas of research expertise including aerospace engineering, human systems integration, autonomous systems, usercentred design, human factors and ergonomics, connectivity and cyber security,and vehicle design and styling. 

The Human Systems Integration (HSI) Group within the Design theme embeds Human Factorsinto all aspects of teaching and research. The members have an international reputation in Human Factors, endowingthe Group with a world-class capability in this area. The activities of the Group provide a system-wide capability encompassing Requirements Analysis, Human-Centred Design, Performance Evaluation, Training and Simulation, and Accident and Incident Investigation

In addition to its research expertise, the Group provides courses for undergraduate degrees and Continuing Professional Development courses to industry along with bespoke consultancy activities for a range of clients. They also offer a dedicated Master's degree in Human Factors in Aviation (by distance learning)specifically developed with industry practitioners in mind.

The HSI Group has particular expertise in the area of Human Factors in Aviation. A Research Fellow is required to take a leading role in the delivery of a number of high-profile, international research programmes concerned with the development of new technologies for the flight deck.  This work will be undertaken in collaboration with a number of blue-chip aerospace companies(both in the UK and Europe) and other leading UK universities.  The work will involve Human Factors aspectsof the design, development and testing of the next generation of civil flight deck display and control systems, predictive workload modelling and the development of new aircraft concepts.
