We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the laboratory of Dr. Ross Anderson in the School of Biochemistry at the University of Bristol. The work will focus on using a range of computational and experimental techniques to construct catalytically proficient enzymes from de novo designed proteins and probe the catalytic promiscuity of these enzymes towards abiological chemical transormations. The appointee will work in close collaboration with the group of Prof. Adrian Mulholland in the School of Chemistry at the University of Bristol.

This BBSRC-funded project will combine computational de novo protein design, molecular biology, protein expression/purification, directed evolution strategies, high throughput screening methods, biophysical protein and enzyme characterization, molecular enzymology, synthetic organic chemistry and small molecule identification. Given the ambitious nature of the project, it is essential that the applicant has demonstrable experience of de novo protein design, abiological catalysis within proteins and enzymes, and synthetic organic chemistry.

The successful candidate will have a PhD (or soon to be awarded) in a relevant discipline with clear evidence of independent research capabilities. The post is initially for 1 year.

We welcome applications from all members of our community and are particularly encouraging those from diverse groups, such as members of the LGBT+ and BAME communities, to join us.
