Applications are invited for appointment as Research Assistant Professor (RAP)/Post-doctoral Fellow (PDF) in Epidemiology or Biostatistics in the School of Public Health (2 posts) (Ref.: 498844), to commence as soon as possible, on a two- to three-year fixed-term basis for RAP, or on a one- to three-year temporary basis for PDF.

Applicants should possess a doctoral degree by research (Ph.D., D.Sc., D.PH. or equivalent) in biostatistics, epidemiology, public health or related disciplines.  They should have a strong quantitative background; experience in analysing epidemiological data using R, STATA, SAS or other statistical packages; demonstrated expertise in the analysis of large and complex datasets; excellent written and oral communication skills; and the ability to work independently as well as in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.  Proficiency in longitudinal analyses, multilevel modelling, data visualisation, and state-of-the-art statistical and epidemiological models would be an advantage.

The appointees will be primarily responsible for applied and methodological work in epidemiological and/or statistical research, and will work with a large population-based cohort with over 46,000 participants in 20,000 households.  They will conduct power/sample size estimation; generate tables and figures for reports and presentations; write scientific publications, grant proposals and reports; and assist in general administrative, operational and other duties as assigned. The focus of one of the posts will include The World Health Organization World Mental Health Survey Initiative and the Composite International Diagnostic Interview (CIDI), which is one of the largest cross-national mental health studies in the world.

Those with relevant post-doctoral work experience and an excellent publication track record may be considered for appointment as RAP, and the appointee is expected to take up a leading role to oversee the cohort team.  Enquiries about the duties of the posts should be sent to Ms. Cynthia Yau at cynthyau@hku.hk.  Information about the School can be obtained at http://sph.hku.hk/index.php.  Those who have responded to the previous advertisement (Ref.: 496922) need not re-apply.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  For RAP, the appointment on fixed terms will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.

The University only accepts online applications for the above posts.  Applicants should apply online and upload an up-to-date C.V.  Review of applications will start as soon as possible and continue until December 31, 2019, or until the posts are filled, whichever is earlier.
