Location:  Lincoln
Salary:   From £33,797 per annum
This post is full time.
Closing Date:   Thursday 14 November 2019
Interview Date:   Wednesday 04 December 2019

The University of Lincoln has been awarded £6.4M by the Research England Expanding Excellence in England fund to establish Lincoln Agri Robotics (LAR).  LAR will comprise the UK’s leading centre of excellence in agri-robotics, complete with 3 full professorial posts and a compliment of 25 other staff. In addition, The University of Lincoln are the lead partners in the prestigious ‘AgriFoRwArdS’ CDT, which also involves two other major UK Universities (Cambridge and UEA).  LAR will focus on Robotics and Autonomous Systems (RAS) technologies, which will advance the start of the art by creating the largest global cohort of RAS specialists and leaders focused on the Agri-Food sector.

To support this new team, we are appointing a Senior Mechatronics Engineer to provide specialist technical support to the staff and students working with and associated with LAR. The post holder will play a leading role in the co-design and building of robotic equipment and be responsible for maintaining and operating LAR’s fleet of robots and associated research equipment. An essential part of the role will be the support and facilitation of key training programmes, including workshops, summer schools, demonstrations and a wide variety of research projects, in both laboratory and field environments such as farms and food factories.

The role will involve working to tight deadlines and contact with a variety of stakeholders internal and external to the College, including senior academics, research staff and students, and industrial partners. Additional support of allied activities within the Lincoln Centre for Autonomous Systems may also be required on an ad-hoc basis.

As a member of a small team, the post holder will be expected to undertake duties in an independent manner without the need for close supervision and be able to demonstrate significant initiative and innovation. The post holder should have a proven track record and/or qualifications in engineering, including extensive knowledge and skills in mechanical and mechatronic systems, and excellent problem-solving and interpersonal skills, as required to support a multi-partner project as well as meeting the needs of individual students.

We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all sections of the community.
