Overview:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to work within the Joint Research Management Office (JRMO) supporting and facilitating the Queen Mary University Ethics of Research Committee (ERC).  You will provide core specialist support for the Research Ethics Committee, members and Chair; and advice and support to researchers applying for ethical approval.  The post holder will be responsible for offering timely and proportionate advice and expertise to researchers on all aspects of research ethics, as relevant to research with humans.  We receive all range of submissions from across academic disciplines, and work closely with our colleagues providing support for medical research in the NHS.

As a first point of contact for enquiries relating to the Research Ethics Committee, the role requires a friendly, helpful and confident manner with a commitment to deliver a reliable and comprehensive high quality professional service to the University's academic community.

The main responsibilities of the role will be provision of administrative support to the Research Ethics Panels and Research Ethics Committee by way of agreeing agendas with Chairs; providing high quality minutes of complex discussions; feedback to researchers; preparing all documentation and delivering training to researchers.  The role will also involve supporting internal communications with academic colleagues with regard to changes to policy and ethical legislation; maintaining records; and reporting from administrative systems that enable the development of research innovation and integrity.  The post-holder will be expected to exercise considerable discretion and independent judgement.

Ideally educated to degree level (or professional equivalent) you will have outstanding attention to detail and the ability to develop excellent working relationships with a range of researchers, flexible to their individual needs and expertise.  Experience of research administration, coordination or management of research studies and of writing and submitting academic ethics applications is highly desirable.

The post holder will work closely with another Research Ethics Facilitator and the Research Support & Development Manager to provide assistance with service improvement projects to ensure a thriving research culture and environment for our academics.

The post is full time (35 hours per week), permanent appointment, with an expected start date of late 2019. Starting salary will be in the range of £34,220 – £40,194 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.
