Professors / Associate Professors / Assistant Professors / Research Assistant Professors / Post-doctorate Researchers (Creative Media & Practice) (PR289/17-18)

Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) is seeking a number of academics who are critically-engaged scholars and/or practitioners with strong track records in innovative creative media/practice and research. We welcome candidates whose work crosses disciplinary boundaries and connects to the disciplinary strengths of HKBU, including music, film, creative writing, and/or visual art.

At HKBU, we are launching a new and robust interdisciplinary research cluster in creative media/practice. It is envisioned that a number of new appointees will be recruited into this cluster. They should have a demonstrable interest in collaborative work across some of these disciplines at HKBU: music, visual and multimedia arts, creative writing, film; while having a successful track record in their own research specialisation and/or creative practice, in acquiring publicly funded grants, in developing international linkages, and in service to the global profession. A commitment to working in a multilingual and cross-cultural setting, as well as in leading a cluster of fellow researchers in creative media/practice within HKBU, is essential. We envision these appointments be made to those who can help to lead this path.

HKBU therefore invites applications for various new positions to help develop two major interdisciplinary themes of the cluster, namely:

Theme 1: Innovating Artistic and Socially Motivated Design through Creative Media
Theme 2: Employing Creative Media for the Socially Disadvantaged

Candidates with the following background, or combination of such, are invited to apply:

  1. Animation and Media Arts
  2. Artificial Intelligence and Creative Technologies
  3. Contemporary Music Performance
  4. Creative Coding and Computational Art (Animation / Sensory Technologies) 
  5. Creative Writing in Media and Genre Fiction
  6. Cultural Studies of Creative Meida/Practice
  7. Documentary Filmmaking
  8. Historical Performace (Keyboard, Strings)
  9. Performance (Piano, Violin, Cello) 
  10. Scoring for Film, Television, Video Games
  11. Songwriting
  12. Sound Engineering and Music Production
  13. Visual Arts

Where appropriate, candidates should submit a digital portfolio of multimedia work (preferably through web-links or PDFs of works). Candidates are also expected to have a track record in academic research.
The appointees are expected to be an active member in the cluster including (but not limited to) work in the areas of curriculum design, undergraduate and postgraduate student mentoring, quality assurance, and supervision of undergraduate honours projects and postgraduate research. Applicants should possess a PhD degree in relevant fields.

Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of three years. Re-appointment thereafter is subject to mutual agreement and availability of funding. Appointment of Assistant Professor or above will be made on a tenure-track basis. Outstanding candidates at Associate Professor or above may be considered for tenure on appointment.
