The Opportunity

The Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech) in Moscow seeks to employ two Visiting Faculty members to join a pioneering group of management scholars and educators working in the areas of innovation management, technology entrepreneurship, and intellectual property management. Commencing September 2019, the positions are up to two years, contingent upon annual performance review in year one.

Skoltech is a young, private, world-class university established in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Skoltech is an internationally-oriented, research-intensive graduate institution with a mission of educating the next generation of technological leaders, and of facilitating technological innovation and entrepreneurship through elite science and engineering. Skoltech’s unique and talented students – which are drawn from Russia and around the world – excel in science, engineering and the commercialization of technology. All Skoltech students, regardless of their core field of science and engineering, engage in a set of courses and learning activities related to innovation and entrepreneurship. English is the working language of Skoltech.

You will join with international colleagues in the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation in teaching and mentoring masters and doctoral students in one or more areas of innovation and entrepreneurship appropriate to your background and expertise. You will work with colleagues as a faculty mentor in Skoltech’s “Innovation Workshop,” which is taken by all incoming master students each September, and will be responsible for teaching or co-teaching up to two other graduate courses in your area of expertise per year. At Skoltech you will enjoy an intellectually rich interdisciplinary environment and will have time and support for research.

Qualifications

You have a Ph.D. in a disciplinary area that relates to organizing and managing technological entrepreneurship & innovation, technology commercialization or the management of the intellectual property. A focus on technology entrepreneurship, product design, and development, technology strategy or management of R&D would be highly valued, but all suitably qualified candidates will be welcome. The unique candidate with a doctorate in engineering or science would be of interest if she/he already has a record of scholarly research and teaching in managerial or organizational aspects of emerging science-and-technology enterprise. An applicant with prior experience in starting or helping to grow young technology-related ventures would be of special interest.

You have a credible research record in the general domain of innovation and entrepreneurship. You are able to merge fundamental theoretical knowledge with practical relevance and are able to build and maintain sustainable relationships with practitioners. As all instruction at Skoltech takes place in English, you must have a strong capability to teach and converse in English.

  • The synergy between science, technology, and practice.

Applicants who are able to start work at Skoltech’s new campus in Moscow during the Fall 2019 term will receive special consideration.
