Associate Professor / Assistant Professor in Transportation Engineering (Ref. 19100802)

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering enjoys a high reputation in conducting world class research and has well established connections with industry partners and government agencies in Hong Kong. It offers academic programmes at various levels. In addition to PhD and MSc programmes, the Department currently offers 4 undergraduate programmes, namely BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering, BEng (Hons) in Environmental Engineering and Sustainable Development, BEng (Hons) in Sustainable Structural and Fire Engineering and BSc (Hons) in Environmental and Occupational Safety and Health. The Department currently has about 47 faculty members and 35 technical and administrative personnel, and is committed to international standards of excellence in teaching and research. The appointee will be required to (a) teach relevant undergraduate and postgraduate subjects in Transportation Engineering, such as Public Transport, Design of Transport Infrastructure, Transport Management and Highway Maintenance, Urban Transport Planning - Theory and Practice, and other related subjects; (b) supervise student projects and theses; (c) initiate, lead and participate in research activities; and (d) undertake relevant administrative duties, including programme leadership, curriculum development, programme validation, accreditation, etc.

Applicants should (a) have a PhD degree in Transportation Engineering or equivalent areas; (b) have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and research; (c) have a good record of research and scholarship; (d) be able to demonstrate effective classroom teaching skills and have good interpersonal skills; and (e) possess research interest in, but not limited to, one or more of the following areas (i) Intelligent Transportation Systems; (ii) Public Transport; (iii) Smart/Green Transport; (iv) Operations Research in Transport; and (v) Logistics and Transport Economics.  Preference will be given to those with a good undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering or Transportation Engineering. Relevant professional qualifications and work experience as a civil engineer or transportation engineer will be an asset.  Applicants for appointment at Associate Professor level should have substantial years of relevant post-qualification experience and an excellent record of relevant academic and/or research achievement. Applicants with less experience will be considered for appointment as Assistant Professor.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service
