Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Geographic Information Science (Educator Track)

The Department of Geography at the National University of Singapore (NUS) invites applications for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Geographic Information Science (Educator Track). The Educator Track at NUS aims to attract, nurture, and retain suitably qualified and highly effective faculty members who approach teaching as a scholarly practice, and who therefore focus on and are passionate about excellence in teaching as a means of supporting student learning. The appointment will begin in July 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter for a period of three years with the possibility of extension.

The candidate must have a PhD at the time of the appointment. The other main requirement is an ability to teach GIS-related modules across the range of levels from undergraduate to graduate (e.g. Introduction to GIS, Spatial programming, Spatial Statistics, or Advanced Remote Sensing Applications) and conduct pedagogical and disciplinary research. Preference will be given to candidates who are able to combine their GIS expertise with a relevant area of research in physical or human geography (e.g. smart/sustainable city and social computing).

The successful applicant will be required to teach at least two modules in the Department's MSc Applied GIS Programme (http://www.fas.nus.edu.sg/geog/graduate/msc-in-applied-gis.html), in addition to contributing to teaching up to two other modules at undergraduate level.

An attractive salary will be commensurate with qualifications, experience and importance of the position. The appointee may also enjoy some or all of the following benefits, according to whether s/he is a Singaporean, permanent resident of Singapore or other nationality: subsidised housing, medical and leave benefits and relocation assistance.

Applicants should send the following documents with their letter of application:

  • Full curriculum vitae
  • Teaching statement
  • Teaching evaluation if available
  • Brief research statement
  • Names and contact details of three referees

Applications should be emailed to Ms Nura Aziz (geonaa@nus.edu.sg). Informal enquiries about the post should be directed to the Chair of the Search Committee, Professor LU Xi Xi (geoluxx@nus.edu.sg).

Review of applications will commence on 15 November 2019 and continue until a suitable candidate is identified.
