Position Focus:

Join one of the world’s leading university presses as Inventory Manager, responsible for all aspects of Press inventory. This position monitors sales trends and stock levels, recommending reprints to ensure adequate levels for backlist and frontlist titles while, at the same time, minimizing excess inventory via conversion to POD, remaindering and pulping. The Inventory Manager serves as primary operational liaison with our third-party warehouse to monitor performance and solve operational issues and also serves as primary inventory liaison with our London affiliate and museum partners to ensure adequate levels of inventory. This position is also responsible for managing and maintaining the Press office facilities at 302 Temple Street.

Essential Duties

Inventory:

  1. Responsible for monitoring front-list and backlist titles based on sales/returns trends (including course buying) and making recommendations for reprints. Solicits input from editorial, sales, and marketing and, transmits confirmed orders to production. Organizes and chairs bi-weekly inventory/reprint meetings held to review possible reprints for front-list and spillover titles. These meetings include production, sales, and marketing staff.
  2. Coordinates shipments of inventory between TriLiteral (US distribution center) and Wiley (London distribution center). Approves London requests for stock held by New Haven office. Recommends US quantities for UK reprints on both front-list and backlist titles. Solicits London quantities for titles being reprinted by New Haven office.
  3. Ensures accuracy of stock availability, monitors any pricing disparities with London, and updates London purchase orders in fulfillment database.
  4. Responsible for reducing excess physical inventory by analyzing trends and recommending titles for movement into Automatic Replenishment Program (short-run printing), POD, remaindering, or pulping, and then executing these decisions. For remainder sales, requires establishing and maintaining relationships with remainder dealers as well as coordinating with museum partners.Warehouse oversight:
  5. Primary contact with Press third-party warehouse. Responsible for monitoring and communicating with warehouse re compliance with SLAs as well as special requests and work orders. 
  6. Notifies warehouse when books can be released for sale. Acts as Press contact with warehouse for all questions except for customer service.
  7. Assists in reviewing all weekly paid bills for account and dollar accuracy. Reviews and approves most TriLiteral bills, including both incoming and outgoing freight as well as operational bills.Press building oversight:
  8. Ensures that YUP office interior and exterior are maintained properly by Yale University custodial and physical plant (building maintenance).
  9. Responds to building issues as they arise.
  10. Ensure accuracy of monthly university charges having to do with physical plant and maintenance service

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Distribution center management and operations. Inventory management.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Knowledge of common business practices, procedures and generally accepted business principles. Knowledge of computer-based fulfillment and A/R accounting systems.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Ability to work with all levels of management and staff.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to produce management reports using business software.

Required Skill/Ability 5:

Strong customer service skills. Excellent written communication, problem-solving and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
