The School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications has a vibrant research culture reflected in the achievements of its academic staff, and is currently rated as a level 5 ERA School (“Well above world standard”) in each of the 2010, 2012, 2015 and 2018 Excellence in Research Australia evaluations. The School enjoys a world-leading reputation for research excellence, with six IEEE Fellows among our 46 academic staff. According to the Academic Ranking of World Universities 2019, EE&T@UNSW is placed first in Australia. The School has innovated significantly by introducing the first 5-year integrated bachelors/masters (with minor) and first (non-conversion) 2-year accredited masters programs, each with a major component of engineering design. These innovations have positioned the School in a period of very strong growth.

The School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications are seeking a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer to conduct independent research and deliver excellent teaching in the area of Digital and Embedded Systems, and to play a significant leadership role within the School in supporting the achievement the teaching and service missions of the School and Faculty.

In the role you will report to the Head of School, Professor Julien Epps and have no direct reports.

A successful Level B or C candidate will also be considered for nomination for a UNSW Scientia Fellowship.

About UNSW Scientia Fellowships

The UNSW Scientia Fellowship Program is one of the cornerstones of UNSW’s 2025 Strategy. A primary goal of the Program is to enhance UNSW's research performance by attracting and retaining exceptional early to mid-career researchers, with outstanding research track records. Scientia Fellows will be leaders in their School and Faculty and engage with the three pillars of social engagement, global impact and academic excellence.

UNSW Scientia Fellows have access to a range of development opportunities including career coaching tailored to their level of experience across research, teaching and leadership. Fellows will be mentored and will also develop the skills required to become mentors and research leaders themselves.

Appointments are made on a Convertible Tenure Track contract. The initial engagement is for 4 years fixed term with the possibility to convert to continuing tenure. The program also allows flexibility to take research breaks to do other study, take an industry engagement or follow other interests.  We are also open to part time appointments.

  • Lecturer (Level B): $107,210 + 17% Superannuation
  • Senior Lecturer (Level C): $130,216 - $149,394 +17% Superannuation
  • 5 year convertible track tenure
  • Full-time position (35 hour week)

About the successful applicant: 

Lecturer (Level B)

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering or related area.
  • Demonstrated track record in research with outcomes of high quality and high impact with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence as well as the capacity for research leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to deliver high quality and innovative teaching and student experience to both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • A track record of significant involvement with the profession and/or industry.
  • High level communication skills and ability to network effectively and interact with a diverse range of students and staff.

Senior Lecturer (Level C)

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering or related area.
  • Demonstrated track record in research with outcomes of high quality and high international impact with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence as well as the capacity for research leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to deliver high quality and innovative teaching and student experience to both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Experience in successfully recruiting and supervising high calibre students.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with the profession and industry.
  • High level communication skills and ability to network effectively and interact with a diverse range of students and staff.
