LEARNING EXPERIENCE ENGINEER, Media Lab- Lifelong Kindergarten (LLK), to develop new activities, extensions, and environments based on the Scratch coding environment. Will plan and develop new strategies for using, extending, and adapting the Scratch coding environment to enable children to explore specific topics and ideas; and help build upon the growing interest in coding and creativity in learning communities around the world. Responsibilities include planning and developing Scratch-related tools and activities that enable creative learning opportunities in museums, schools, and other learning environments; developing new hardware tools for exploring various Scratch-related tools and activities, strategies, and topics; facilitating LLK's collaboration with partner organizations to support children's learning through play in formal and informal learning settings; conducting research to identify strategies for developing and implementing LLK research-based initiatives; organizing and facilitating creative learning workshops around Scratch-related tools and activities; supporting LLK graduate student research through software and hardware development; collaborating on organizing conference sessions/gatherings to share LLK’s approach, programs, and resources; and other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: at least three years’ experience developing Scratch software and hardware extensions; bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in education, learning sciences, or related discipline; excellent written and spoken communication skills; and an understanding of constructionist educational approaches. Must have experience with the following: Scratch 3.0 codebase; planning, managing, and leading learning experiences in formal and informal learning environments; JavaScript, React, embedded systems programming, and web development; designing and implementing electronics prototypes; facilitating creative learning initiatives for students with diverse backgrounds; leading educational activities using the Scratch programming language and online community; coordinating and developing research partnerships; and conducting educational research and writing publications.
