About the opportunity 

An opportunity exists for a highly motivated Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Biochemistry and Molecular and Cellular Biology (BCMB) in an Education-Focused position. A Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (Education-focused) is expected to dedicate the majority of their contribution to education (70% - or 80% by mutual agreement of their academic workload allocation). This position will have Unit Coordinator responsibility for one or more undergraduate courses that have a range of sizes up to 7–800 students. The position will require the ability to undertake curriculum development and innovation (both in the laboratory and in the theory parts of courses), laboratory class management and supervision and lecturing in these Units (and into additional units, where required and relevant). The position will also assist the academic coordinators of other units within the discipline.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in an area relevant to the BCMB discipline and be a committed educator. They will be highly organized and preferably have experience in the management of undergraduate courses, including lecturing, laboratory class management, assessment, record keeping, WHS and other associated tasks. They will understand the principles and pedagogy of good assessment design, constructively aligning assessment tasks to learning outcomes. They will have a demonstrated ability to interact effectively with students, facilitating and guiding their learning in theory and laboratory sessions, and undertaking appropriate pastoral care.

  • A PhD in a closely-related field
  • Deep and broad experience in teaching and learning in a tertiary environment, as evidenced by participation in team teaching within an established program and experience in teaching in a variety of settings.
  • Demonstrated success in designing, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to develop trials and evaluate innovative practices in teaching and learning with a view to improving educational outcomes
  • Demonstrated experience co-ordinating a unit of study within Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology

The School of Life and Environmental Sciences (SOLES) brings together researchers in the life, earth and environmental sciences to improve the quality and efficiency of teaching and build new infrastructure to support and enhance capacity in research and teaching.
