We are looking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Mucosal Immunology and Inflammation to work alongside Prof T MacDonald.  Prof MacDonald’s laboratory has a long list of achievement in elucidating basic pathways of inflammation in patients with inflammatory bowel disease and working with pharmaceutical companies to accelerate new therapies into patients.

Barts and The London School of Medicine, Barts Health NHS Trust and the Centre for Immunobiology at QMUL each have an international reputation for basic and translational research as well as clinical excellence. The Post-Doctoral Research Assistant will work in the Centre for Immunobiology in the Blizard Institute at Barts and The London Medical School. The successful candidate should have excellent communication skills, together with the ability to organize and motivate others. They should be able to demonstrate enthusiasm and innovation when faced with challenges and will utilize management skills in conducting the research.

Foremost, candidates should demonstrate an ability and willingness to learn. Understanding of basic immunology and pathways of inflammation is desirable but not essential to the post.  Techniques used in the project include:

  • organ culture
  • tissue culture
  • western blotting
  • immunoassays (single and multiplex)
  • flow cytometry/cell sorting

This post is full-time for 1 year. Starting salary will be on the Queen Mary Salary scale depending on experience (£31,613 – £40,194) including London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days’ annual leave, pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
