DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRONIC AND INFORMATION ENGINEERING
 
Chair Professor / Professor in Electronic and Information Engineering (Ref. 19093005)

 
Since its inception in 1974, the Department of Electronic and Information Engineering (EIE) has enjoyed a distinguished history of providing outstanding engineering education and applicable research in Hong Kong. As part of our long term strategic development, we are introducing new courses in information security and specialism in optoelectronics in Master’s degree. This reflects both our research objectives and responds to the needs of employers in Hong Kong and beyond.  
 
The Department is seeking to appoint a Chair Professor/Professor to lead research activities within the department. The Department has current strengths in signal processing, non-linear and complex systems, optoelectronics for both sensors and communications and photovoltaics. We are seeking appointees with an international reputation to complement and build our research strength.  Applicants in fields such as wearable/disposable electronics, wireless and future communication networks, micro and nano electronics, imaging and sensors for biomedical systems, green communications technologies, power system, quantum information, big data, deep learning, and emerging areas of electronic and information engineering, etc. are encouraged to apply. Potential candidates in other fields who can articulate a vision to enhance the departmental research are also welcome to apply.

The appointee will be required to: 
  
(a)    provide leadership in all aspects of academic activities, including research, teaching and service in the Department; 

(b)    provide leadership in promoting research collaboration, securing external research grant, improving research quality and publication output in power/energy systems and related disciplines;   

(c)    facilitate the Department to gain and increase its visibility and international connections;

(d)    teach and contribute to curriculum development at undergraduate and postgraduate levels;

(e)    engage in the supervision of research students of the Department (e.g., MPhil and PhD students);

(f)    contribute to academic and departmental administration/management; and
  
(g)    undertake any other duties as assigned by the Head of the Department or his delegates. 

Qualifications 
 
Applicants should have: 
 
(a)    a doctoral degree in Electronic and Information Engineering or a closely related field;
 
(b)    an international reputation in research and scholarship in Electronic and Information Engineering or closely related areas;

(c)    a strong record in attracting research funding;

(d)    a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching;

(e)    a global perspective, proven academic leadership and ability to foster collaboration with faculty members with different cultural and research backgrounds in teaching, intellectual contributions and service activities; and

(f)    ability to bring more visibility, prestige and reputation to the University.
