International, excellent, enterprising and inclusive, Monash is Australia’s largest university – with 70,000 students from more than 170 countries – an education and research powerhouse committed to the great challenges of the age.  A member of Australia’s prestigious Group of Eight research intensive universities, Monash has a well-established reputation for innovation through research collaboration and engagement with industry, and the strongest international competitive research funding record of any Australian university.

Monash Food Innovation (MFI) takes a multi-disciplinary approach to solving the global challenges impacting the future of food, providing a gateway to the University’s research, education and global networks across the food and agribusiness food chain. Originally an investment between Mondelez International and the Victorian government, MFI moved to Monash in 2016 and focusses on making significant impact in developing partnerships across the food sector.

Reporting to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Enterprise), the Director MFI is responsible for strategic and operational leadership of the unit. The incumbent will work closely with academic colleagues, industry and government to mobilise Monash’s expertise, resources and assets around the University’s five Global Impact Themes (Sustainable economies, Inclusive communities; Biotechnology and therapeutics; Future materials and processes; Medical technologies and systems; and Data, Artificial Intelligence) to contribute to solving the challenges in food and agribusiness and develop sustainable, globally connected food ecosystems.

Monash is seeking a leader with demonstrable experience of developing and leveraging academic/industry partnerships across multiple disciplines. To be successful you will need proven experience of working in or with the international food industry, have a strong focus on creating and leveraging opportunities and the ability to work collegially with staff at all levels of the University.   A Doctoral qualification or equivalent accreditation and Professor or Associate Professor standing is required, as well as recognition as a leading authority in a relevant discipline or industry sector.

Change has been the driving force of Monash University’s growth and success for more than 60 years as we have strived to make a positive difference in the world, and it’s the foundation of our future as we redefine what it means to be a university.

Our Impact 2030 strategic plan charts the path for how we will actively contribute to addressing three key global challenges of the age – climate change, geopolitical security and thriving communities – through excellent research and education for the benefit of national and global communities.

We transform students into global citizens by providing an excellent and contemporary learning experience across our four Australian campuses, and our campuses in Malaysia and Indonesia. We have a major presence in India and China, and a significant centre and research foundation in Italy, and offer rich educational experiences including the Global Immersion Guarantee, which enable graduates to stand out in the employment market.

We harness the research and expertise of our global network of talent and campuses to produce tangible, real-world solutions and applications at the Monash Technology Precinct, where our ethos of change catalyses collaboration between researchers, infrastructure and industry, and drives innovation through commercial opportunities that deliver positive impact to human lives.

In our short history, we have skyrocketed through global university rankings and established ourselves consistently among the world's best tertiary institutions.
