There is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic researcher to join a strong, multi-disciplinary team in the research of composite manufacturing science at the internationally leading Bristol Composites Institute (ACCIS). In this role, you will be investigating self-aware composite manufacturing process at the forefront of the high-value aerospace industry. The post is part of projects aiming to deliver highly automated and robust manufacturing processes in close collaboration with industry stakeholders and academic partners.

Candidates with experience of robotic systems and automation are invited to apply for this post at the University of Bristol. You will work on developing customised robotic equipment to deposit composite materials, identify and select sensors for data-driven processes, and write custom control algorithms to create self-aware manufacturing systems. Good communication skills will be needed to report your results to industrial partners, and at national and international conferences. You will have or be working towards a PhD in Engineering/ Robotics/ Physics/ Mathematics (or closely related discipline) and work well as part of a dynamic research team. Previous experience with composites or other additive manufacturing systems would be beneficial.

Composites is a strategic research area at the University of Bristol, with over 200 active researchers in the Bristol Composites Institute. We have close ties with the National Composites Centre (NCC), part of the UK High Value Manufacturing Catapult, based 8 miles away, with some of the world’s most advanced composites manufacturing equipment. This post is a unique opportunity to have an impact on the future of advanced composites manufacture and is offered on a full-time basis for 2 years.
