Job Details

Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (Singapore) invites applications for:

Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Infectious Diseases)

We are currently recruiting a talented and highly motivated postdoctoral research scientist in infectious diseases in the team of Nanyang Assistant Professor Guan Xue Li (https://sites.google.com/site/lipidsinsystemshealthlab/). Infectious diseases continue to threaten global health and economy and pose a challenge to health science, in part due to the poor predictability of constantly evolving infectious agents. It is increasingly appreciated that strain diversity at the genetic levels have major implications on the phenotypes of the pathogens, including virulence and antimicrobial susceptibility and consequently inter-individual variations in disease outcomes. Our team have further revealed strain-differences in lipid metabolism of clinical isolates of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. We are interested in understanding how lipids are regulated in different clinical bacterial isolates, and how these metabolic differences contribute to drug resistance and long term persistence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and related species. The candidate will be involved in our research program on next generation lipidomics, metabolism, infectious diseases, microbiology, and the broader field of translational systems biology (https://sites.google.com/site/lipidsinsystemshealthlab/).

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work with an international and multidisciplinary team of investigators, and link up with healthcare groups and industries. The appointed Research Fellow will also have access to leading edge facilities, including state-of-the-art mass spectrometry and imaging tools.

Qualifications/ Requirements

  1. Ph.D in Biomedical Sciences or Biology, or related fields.
  2. Strong theoretical background and laboratory skills in microbiology, infection biology and microbial metabolism
  3. Experience in ‘Omics’ research, computation and analyses of large datasets will be an advantage
  4. Highly self-motivated and demonstrate independence with minimal supervision
  5. Excellent organizational and communication skills, fluent in spoken and written English
  6. Proven track record with publications in international peer reviewed journals
  7. Able to supervise students and staff and work as a team
