About the position

At the Department of Sociology and Political Science (ISS) there is a vacant temporary position as Postdoctoral Fellow in peace and conflict research for a period of two years. The position is connected to the Department’s research on peace and conflict, but also falls within the Department’s research on political behavior and values (https://www.ntnu.edu/iss/research).

For several decades researchers at ISS have contributed to national and international research on political instability, intrastate armed conflict, and political regimes. The Department benefits from extensive collaboration with researchers at PRIO. The Departments also hosts internationally renowned research on political behavior (e.g., elections, electoral campaigns, conflicts of values, change of values, referendums and political trust).

Main duties and responsibilities

  • The Postdoctoral position is within ISS’ strategic research area “Conflict, cooperation, and the use of power”, but is also closely linked to the department’s research in the field of political behavior. The objective of the postdoctoral project is to further develop and strengthen the department’s research in these areas.
  • The successful candidate should conduct research on the potential impact of terrorist events on political attitudes, paying particular attention to the recent terror attacks in France and Norway. The project should integrate insights from research on political violence and terrorism with research on political behavior and political psychology. A key question to investigate is the mediating effect of the terrorist(s)’ ideology. Through the project the candidate may collaborate with researchers at the Norwegian Center for Violence and Traumatic Stress Studies and scholars in France.
  • The position may be ascribed obligation to work, with teaching and supervision activities in political behavior, and extended for up to two years.
  • Applicants will be assessed by the (1) quality and potential of the project proposal, (2) quality and relevance of the academic works and (3) potential to contribute to the research group and the Department.
